 Full-grain bovine leather

We use only the finest full-grain leather which comes from the cowhides originating from Northern European cattle. Only the best (that is least damaged, without scratches, insect bites, blood veins, growth wrinkles etc.) skins can be used for making full grain leather. It is made of clean natural hides that are not sanded to remove imperfections. Only the hair is removed.

The grain remains in its natural state which will allow the best fiber strength, resulting in greater durability. The natural grain also has natural breathability, resulting in greater comfort. Full-grain leather wears its natural markings not as defects, but rather as genuine proof of its authenticity. They are the“Nature’s Signatures.”

Hides are typically 2mm thick, and must be hand picked for uniformity. Less than 10% of all hides are judged select enough to remain full-grain. The natural full-grain naked leather will wear better than other leather, and will actually improve over the years. This type of leather is the most sought after and consequently the most expensive. In fact, if properly cared for, products made from full-grain leather should last indefinitely.

Vegetable tanned

Our leather is vegetable tanned. The photosensitivity of such leather is a potential disadvantage, but on the other hand it gives it a lively sheen that actually makes it more attractive over the years. Vegetable tanned leather is stiffer, firmer, very resistant, stronger, and better at absorbing humidity.  Originally rose-beige, it darkens in daylight and changes to shades of brown little by little as it ages.
